My Healthcare Approach

I am a Naturopathic Doctor, licensed to deliver primary healthcare that integrates western medicine diagnostics with a wide variety of non-pharmaceutical treatments in order to improve your body function and health.

In my practice, I address and assess all of your body’s systems together as they interrelate to each other, rather than just seeing you as one isolated symptom. You are not a headache or an auto-immune disease. You are an integrated being and so your health breakdowns usually have multiple influences or causes. I address these multiple issues together since that is also how your body functions.

I constantly strive to provide the best possible care for my patients and to make my healthcare practice accessible. I want you to get the right healthcare that you need and keep it affordable. I will always give a solid explanation for any treatment recommendation and ensure that treatment protocols are adjusted to meet each individual’s needs.

My Experience & Education

  • Over 12 Years of Experience
  • Board-Certified Naturopathic Doctor
  • Graduate of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM)
  • Member in Good Standing with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO)
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) from McGill University
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from York University.
  • Additional training in digestive concerns, chronic fatigue & stress concerns, chronic muscle pain, hormone imbalance, and immune system dysfunction.

Naturopathy Explained

Naturopathic Medicine (aka Naturopathy) is a licensed primary healthcare profession that integrates science and western medical diagnostics with a wide variety of non-pharmaceutical treatments to improve how the body functions. The focus is on assessing all systems in the body together to identify and treat the fundamental cause of illness, rather than addressing each symptom individually.

After a thorough medical history intake, physical exam, and review of relevant lab testing, a Naturopathic Doctor will make individualized treatment recommendations drawing on a variety of natural medicine disciplines including:

  • Clinical Nutrition & Dietary Changes
  • Vitamins & Nutritional Supplements
  • Herbal Medicine
  • Acupuncture
  • Vitamin Injections
  • Lifestyle Counselling

In following an integrative approach to medicine, Naturopaths work in conjunction with conventional healthcare professionals, offering treatment solutions that complement medical prescriptions and care.

NDcare Naturopathic Clinic provides a wide range of services to help patients maximize their health and well-being. Book your appointment with Dr. Tara Andresen at one of our conveniently-located Toronto naturopath clinics. Call or email us today.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a medical discipline that combines western science and diagnostics with natural treatment methods. Naturopathic medicine believes in the body’s own ability to heal itself and that disease occurs when the body’s systems are out of balance. When all of the body’s systems are brought back into alignment, then healing occurs and health is optimized.

Naturopathy is a drug-free, safe, and effective system of medicine that uses a variety of medical techniques—such as acupuncture, massage therapy, botanic medicine, diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes, and vitamins and supplements.

Holistic Approach to Healing

Unlike western medicine, which focuses on individual symptoms, naturopaths believe in getting to the root cause of illness. Each person is unique, and there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. Thus, naturopathic medicine takes a holistic approach to health by treating the whole person. Naturopathic doctors consider a person’s physical and emotional states when prescribing natural healing options.

Disease Prevention

Although naturopathic medicine treats acute health conditions and current health concerns, a large focus is also on disease prevention. Naturopathy can be an effective complement to your traditional medical treatments, and naturopathic doctors can work alongside your family physician to promote optimal health and well-being.

Guiding Principles of Naturopathy

The practice of naturopathy follows six guiding principles:

  1. Do no harm. Naturopathy uses natural treatment methods, which have minimal or no side effects.
  2. Treat the underlying cause of illness. The goal of naturopathy is to get to the root cause of illness, rather than just treating symptoms.
  3. Promote healthy living. Naturopathic doctors focus on disease prevention, and will educate you on how to optimize your health—including diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes—to maximize your well-being and prevent illness.
  4. Treat the whole person. No two people are the same, so no two treatment plans should be identical. Naturopaths look at physical, emotional, and mental factors, and will prescribe a customized treatment plan, tailored to your individual needs.
  5. Emphasize disease prevention. Naturopathic doctors will work with you and provide solutions that will prevent disease and maintain health and vitality.
  6. Support the body’s ability to heal itself. Naturopathic medicine works to remove any obstacles blocking the body’s ability to heal itself, and bring the body’s systems back into balance.

At NDcare Naturopathic Clinics, we specialize in all aspects of naturopathy. Book your appointment with Dr. Tara Andresen and discover the many benefits of naturopathic care.
