The results of a recent study out of Australia suggest that acupuncture may be effective for reducing infertility-related stress. The women involved in the study had been unsuccessful in trying to conceive for 12 months or more. They received 6 acupuncture sessions over 8 weeks. The Fertility Problem Inventory was used to assess outcomes. The results showed that the women who received acupuncture experienced a reduction in infertility stress and an increase in self-efficacy. They also described the experience and impact of acupuncture as positive, specifically related to a sense of relaxation and improved perspective on coping. Researchers concluded that acupuncture may be a useful intervention for women experiencing infertility-related stress.
